The short version, for anyone new to this.
A plain text message fits 160 characters. Go over and it splits into parts of 153 each, and you are billed for every part.
The moment one character falls outside the basic set, the whole message drops to 70 characters. A 100 character message with one emoji bills as two messages, not one.
Fix it does two things in one press. First the mechanical pass: bad characters, wrapped links, separator lines, greetings, signatures, lists, repeated numbers. Then the rewrite: grammar, punctuation, order and length, with every fact kept.
Most of it arrives by copying out of Word or Outlook, which swaps characters as you type without telling you. Text moved between a Mac and a PC can also arrive garbled, with é showing up as √©. Clean it up repairs that. Curly quotes and apostrophes instead of straight ones. Em dashes and en dashes. The single character ellipsis instead of three periods. Emojis. Invisible non breaking spaces.
Some are free and some are expensive. These are safe:

So write mas, medico, sesion, evaluacion. But keep the ñ in año, because without it the word means something else entirely.
Russian, Chinese, Korean, Bengali, Arabic, Urdu, Hebrew and Yiddish have no basic character set to fall back on. Those always run at 70 characters per part. The tool says so rather than flagging it red.
Never paste a line of dashes or underscores as a separator. On a Unicode message that line alone can cost four segments and it carries no information.
Never paste a link that came out of an email. Email security rewrites links, turning a 37 character link into a 247 character one. Take the link from the source, or paste it here and press Clean it up.
Send English and Spanish as two separate blasts to two filtered lists. Sending both in one message means everybody pays to receive a half they cannot read.
